Drug intelligence / Profile preview
PreviDent 5000+ (Colgate PreviDent 5000 Plus) is a prescription-strength fluoride toothpaste containing 1.1% sodium fluoride, which delivers 5,000 ppm of fluoride. It is manufactured by Colgate Oral Pharmaceuticals and is indicated for the prevention and treatment of dental caries, particularly in high-risk patients. The drug works by promoting the remineralization of early carious lesions and strengthening tooth enamel through the formation of fluorapatite, which is more resistant to acid-induced demineralization. A Phase 1 crossover study conducted by the University of Michigan (NCT05601154) evaluated the bioavailability of fluoride in saliva when using PreviDent 5000+ alone or followed by a fluoride mouthrinse.
