PRF + polyhexanide + macrogol is an investigational combination therapy developed by the Medical University of Vienna for the treatment of infected chronic venous ulcers. The treatment utilizes autologous Platelet Rich Fibrin (PRF) as a biologic scaffold and delivery vehicle. PRF is derived from the patient's own blood via centrifugation and contains a concentrated matrix of fibrin, platelets, leukocytes, and various growth factors (such as PDGF, TGF-β, and VEGF) that promote tissue regeneration and wound healing. In this specific formulation, the PRF matrix is impregnated with Lavasorb®, a topical antiseptic solution containing polyhexanide (PHMB) and macrogol. Polyhexanide serves as a broad-spectrum antimicrobial agent that disrupts bacterial cell membranes, while macrogol acts as a surfactant to facilitate wound cleansing and enhance the distribution of the antiseptic within the wound bed.
