primaquine + pyronaridine + artesunate

This is a combination antimalarial therapy consisting of primaquine, pyronaridine, and artesunate. Pyronaridine-artesunate is an artemisinin-based combination therapy (ACT) that is registered for both Plasmodium falciparum and Plasmodium vivax malaria. When combined with primaquine, it creates a treatment regimen that not only treats the current infection but also helps prevent transmission. Pyronaridine acts as a blood schizonticide by interfering with the synthesis of the haemozoin pigment within the Plasmodium digestive vacuole. Artesunate is a short-acting artemisinin derivative with rapid parasiticidal effects. Primaquine is added to reduce P. falciparum transmission by eliminating gametocytes, the sexual stage of the parasite responsible for transmission to mosquitoes.
