Primycin is a small molecule antibiotic complex being developed by Pannon Pharma for the systemic treatment of multi-drug resistant (MDR) Gram-positive bacterial infections. Originally discovered as a product of *Saccharopolyspora galilaea* (formerly *Streptomyces primycini*), primycin is a guanidino-substituted macrolide complex that has historically been utilized in topical formulations for skin and soft tissue infections. Pannon Pharma is advancing a systemic formulation to address the urgent need for new therapies against pathogens such as methicillin-resistant *Staphylococcus aureus* (MRSA). Its mechanism of action involves the disruption of bacterial cell membranes, leading to increased permeability and subsequent cell death. This membrane-active profile is particularly advantageous as it bypasses many common resistance mechanisms associated with protein synthesis or cell wall inhibitors. The systemic candidate is currently in the preclinical stage of development.
