Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Prismocal B22 + phoxilium is a combination of two renal replacement solutions used in Continuous Renal Replacement Therapy (CRRT), primarily for critically ill patients with acute kidney injury or acute renal failure. Both solutions are designed to replace water and electrolytes lost during hemofiltration and hemodiafiltration, correct electrolyte and acid-base imbalances, and may be used in cases of drug poisoning when dialyzable substances need to be removed[1][2][3][5][6]. - **Prismocal B22** is a calcium-free solution containing sodium (140 mmol/L), potassium (4 mmol/L), magnesium (0.75 mmol/L), chloride (120.5 mmol/L), lactate (3 mmol/L), bicarbonate (22 mmol/L) and glucose (6.1 mmol/L)[7]. It is typically used as a dialysate or replacement fluid for patients with high potassium or calcium levels[5][7]. - **Phoxilium** contains sodium (140 mmol/L), potassium (4 mmol/L), calcium (1.25 mmol/L), magnesium (0.6 mmol/L), chloride (115.9 mmol/L), phosphate (1.2 mmol/L) and bicarbonate as buffer[4][6][7]. It is indicated for use when phosphate supplementation is needed due to losses during CRRT; it does not contain glucose[3][6]. Both products are pharmacologically inactive; their mechanism relies on restoring plasma electrolyte concentrations to desired clinical levels through passive diffusion/convection during CRRT[2].
