Progesterone + estradiol is a combination hormonal therapy used for luteal phase support (LPS) in assisted reproductive technology (ART), specifically In Vitro Fertilization (IVF). Progesterone is a steroid hormone essential for the secretory transformation of the endometrium, which is necessary for embryo implantation and the maintenance of early pregnancy. Estradiol is often co-administered to maintain serum estrogen levels during the luteal phase, particularly in protocols where endogenous production may be compromised by pituitary suppression or specific trigger agents.
