Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Prolact CR is a 100% human milk-based caloric fortifier developed by Prolacta Bioscience for premature and low-birth-weight infants in the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU). It is the first and only caloric fortifier derived entirely from human milk, specifically pasteurized human milk cream and ultrafiltration permeate, rather than cow's milk or synthetic sources. Classified as a medical food, it is used to standardize mother's own milk or donor human milk to a specific caloric density (typically 20 calories per fluid ounce) by providing approximately 2.5-2.6 calories per mL through added human milk-derived fat. It is administered enterally via oral or feeding tube under physician supervision to support growth and development in vulnerable infant populations.
