Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Promethazine hydrochloride + phenylephrine hydrochloride is an FDA-approved combination oral solution indicated for the temporary relief of upper respiratory symptoms, including nasal congestion, associated with allergic rhinitis and the common cold. The formulation contains promethazine hydrochloride, a phenothiazine-derivative H1 receptor antagonist with sedative and antiemetic properties, and phenylephrine hydrochloride, a sympathomimetic amine that functions as a nasal decongestant through alpha-adrenergic receptor agonism and subsequent vasoconstriction. Distributed by Genus Lifesciences, this small molecule combination has historically been marketed under brand names such as Phenergan VC and Pherazine VC.
