This treatment regimen consists of supragingival prophylaxis (dental polishing) combined with a three-day course of oral azithromycin (500 mg daily). Azithromycin, a macrolide antibiotic, is utilized for its broad-spectrum antimicrobial activity against periodontal pathogens and its potential anti-inflammatory properties. The prophylaxis component involves the mechanical removal of supragingival plaque and stains using rubber cups and prophylaxis paste.
