Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Freefol-MCT is a microemulsion formulation of the intravenous anesthetic propofol, developed by Daewon Pharm. It is characterized by the use of a medium-chain triglyceride (MCT) and long-chain triglyceride (LCT) lipid vehicle, which distinguishes it from traditional LCT-only emulsions. This microemulsion technology is intended to enhance the physicochemical stability of the drug and reduce the incidence of injection-site pain, a frequent adverse effect associated with standard propofol formulations. Freefol-MCT is approved for the induction and maintenance of general anesthesia, as well as for the sedation of ventilated patients in intensive care and for monitored anesthesia care.
