Drug intelligence / Profile preview
**Propofol + fentanyl + ketamine** is an intravenous procedural-sedation and analgesia regimen evaluated as an alternative to general anesthesia for endoscopic procedures and minor urological surgery. Propofol enhances inhibitory gamma-aminobutyric acid type A receptor signaling to produce rapid sedation and hypnosis, fentanyl is a potent mu-type opioid receptor agonist that provides analgesia, and ketamine is a noncompetitive N-methyl-D-aspartate receptor antagonist that provides dissociative anesthesia and analgesia. The combination is intended to achieve deep sedation with analgesia while potentially avoiding some requirements and risks of general anesthesia.
