Propofol + rocuronium is a combination of two intravenous agents commonly used together in anesthesia practice. Propofol is a short-acting, lipophilic intravenous anesthetic agent that induces and maintains general anesthesia by potentiating the activity of gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA) at the GABA-A receptor, resulting in central nervous system depression. Rocuronium is an aminosteroid non-depolarizing neuromuscular blocking agent that acts as a competitive antagonist at nicotinic acetylcholine receptors at the neuromuscular junction, leading to skeletal muscle relaxation. The combination is frequently used for induction and maintenance of general anesthesia, especially when rapid sequence intubation or muscle relaxation for surgical procedures is required[1][3][4][8]. This regimen allows for rapid onset of unconsciousness (from propofol) and effective skeletal muscle paralysis (from rocuronium), facilitating airway management and surgical conditions.
