Overview

This is a combination of four agents commonly used in general anesthesia: - **Propofol** is an intravenous anesthetic agent used for induction and maintenance of general anesthesia. It acts primarily as a positive allosteric modulator at the gamma-aminobutyric acid type A (GABA-A) receptor, enhancing inhibitory neurotransmission in the central nervous system[1][3]. - **Rocuronium** is a non-depolarizing neuromuscular blocking agent (muscle relaxant) that competitively inhibits acetylcholine at nicotinic receptors on the motor endplate, resulting in skeletal muscle paralysis. It facilitates tracheal intubation and provides muscle relaxation during surgery[4][5]. - **Sevoflurane** is an inhalational volatile anesthetic used for induction and maintenance of general anesthesia. It enhances GABAergic inhibition via GABA-A receptors and also affects other ion channels to produce its effects[4]. - **Nitrous oxide (N2O)** is an inhaled anesthetic gas with analgesic properties. It acts as an NMDA receptor antagonist among other mechanisms but cannot provide full surgical anesthesia alone; it is typically combined with more potent agents like sevoflurane[2][4]. This combination provides rapid induction of unconsciousness (propofol), muscle relaxation for intubation/surgery (rocuronium), maintenance of anesthesia with rapid emergence profile (sevoflurane), and additional analgesia/anesthetic depth modulation (nitrous oxide). This regimen allows titration to patient needs during surgery.
