Overview

This is a combination of two active pharmaceutical ingredients: **propofol**, an intravenous sedative-hypnotic agent used for induction and maintenance of general anesthesia or sedation, and **tenofovir disoproxil fumarate**, a nucleotide analog reverse transcriptase inhibitor primarily used as an antiretroviral for the treatment of HIV infection and chronic hepatitis B. Propofol acts by potentiating GABA-A receptor activity in the central nervous system, leading to sedation and hypnosis. Tenofovir disoproxil fumarate is a prodrug that is converted in vivo to tenofovir diphosphate, which inhibits viral reverse transcriptase by competing with natural substrates and causing DNA chain termination. There are patents describing co-formulated tablets containing both agents[1][3], but this combination does not appear to be marketed as a standard therapy.
