Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Propolis + aloe vera is a combination of two natural substances—propolis (a resinous compound produced by bees) and aloe vera (a plant extract)—used primarily in topical formulations for skin health. This combination leverages the antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, moisturizing, and wound-healing properties of both ingredients. Topical preparations containing propolis and aloe vera have demonstrated efficacy in clinical studies for conditions such as palmoplantar psoriasis (with significant improvement rates), acne vulgaris (notably reducing lesion counts), eczema/dermatitis relief, and general skin hydration[2][1][4]. The mechanism of action involves synergistic antimicrobial effects against bacteria implicated in dermatological conditions; anti-inflammatory activity via polyphenols from propolis; enhanced detoxification through increased urinary excretion of carcinogens when taken orally; as well as support for tissue repair from both components[5][3]. These products are typically marketed as creams or ointments but may also be found in oral pastilles or supplements.
