This is a combination of two naturally occurring prostaglandins—prostaglandin E1 (PGE1, also known as alprostadil) and prostaglandin I2 (PGI2, also known as prostacyclin or epoprostenol). Both are potent vasodilators with distinct but complementary mechanisms. Prostaglandin E1 acts primarily by relaxing vascular smooth muscle, leading to vasodilation and inhibition of platelet aggregation; it is used clinically for erectile dysfunction and to maintain ductus arteriosus patency in neonates with congenital heart defects[2][3][4]. Prostaglandin I2 (prostacyclin) is a strong vasodilator and inhibitor of platelet aggregation, widely used in the management of pulmonary arterial hypertension[4]. The combination may be considered for synergistic effects on vascular tone or platelet function but does not have a widely recognized brand name or fixed-dose formulation.
