Overview
Proteflazid (eye drops) is a preclinical-stage ophthalmic antiviral drug being developed by Ecopharm for the treatment of viral keratoconjunctivitis. It is a herbal extract-based natural product formulation containing flavonoids. The drug's mechanism of action involves the inhibition of viral DNA polymerase and thymidine kinase enzymes, which are critical for the replication of DNA viruses. Additionally, it is reported to induce the production of endogenous interferons, enhancing the local immune response. This formulation is specifically designed for topical application to the eye, distinguishing it from Ecopharm's existing oral and suppository Proteflazid products.
