Prothrombin complex concentrate, human is a plasma-derived biologic medication containing nonactivated vitamin K-dependent coagulation factors II, VII, IX, and X as well as proteins C and S. It is used for the urgent reversal of acquired coagulation factor deficiency induced by vitamin K antagonist (VKA) therapy (such as warfarin) in adult patients with acute major bleeding or who require urgent surgery or invasive procedures. The product works by rapidly restoring depleted clotting factors to promote hemostasis and stop bleeding. Compared to fresh frozen plasma, it provides more rapid INR reduction with lower risk of volume overload. The most common brand name in the US is Kcentra[1][2][4][6][9][10].
