Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Prothrombin complex concentrate (human) is a plasma-derived biologic product containing a concentrated blend of vitamin K-dependent blood coagulation factors, specifically factors II (prothrombin), VII, IX, and X. It is primarily indicated for the urgent reversal of acquired coagulation factor deficiency induced by vitamin K antagonist (VKA, e.g., warfarin) therapy in adult patients with acute major bleeding or a need for urgent surgery or other invasive procedures. Additionally, it is used for the treatment and prophylaxis of bleeding in patients with hemophilia B (congenital factor IX deficiency), particularly when purified factor IX concentrates are not available. The product works by replenishing the depleted clotting factors necessary to restore the coagulation cascade and achieve hemostasis. It is typically administered via slow intravenous injection. Sinopharm Group Shanghai Blood Products Co., Ltd. is developing a version of this product specifically for the treatment of hemophilia B.
