ProTrans19 + CA

ProTrans19+CA is a mesenchymal stromal cell (MSC)-based therapy developed by NextCell Pharma for the treatment of severe pneumonia associated with COVID-19 (SARS-CoV-2) infection. The active ingredient consists of allogeneic Wharton's Jelly-derived umbilical cord mesenchymal stromal cells, marketed under the brand name ProTrans. This cell therapy is administered as a single intravenous infusion and is designed to modulate immune responses and reduce hyper-inflammation in the lungs of hospitalized COVID-19 patients requiring oxygen support. The Canadian trial (NCT04869397) was a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled, multi-center Phase II study that enrolled patients at McGill University-affiliated hospitals. The study was discontinued early due to feasibility considerations related to evolving standards of care and reduced event rates during later stages of the pandemic, though it confirmed the short-term safety of ProTrans in hospitalized patients.
