Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Providac is a probiotic supplement developed by Zydus Cadila (specifically the Zydus Alidac division). It contains a combination of two well-characterized bacterial strains: *Lactobacillus acidophilus* LA-5 and *Bifidobacterium animalis* subsp. *lactis* BB-12. The product is primarily indicated for the prevention and treatment of antibiotic-associated diarrhea (AAD) by restoring and normalizing the intestinal flora disrupted by antibiotic therapy. It is also used for other gastrointestinal conditions such as irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), gastroenteritis, and chronic diarrhea. Clinical evidence from multicenter trials in India supports its efficacy in reducing the duration and severity of AAD.
