Overview

This is a combination drug containing three active ingredients: - Pseudoephedrine, a sympathomimetic amine that acts as an alpha and beta adrenergic agonist to produce vasoconstriction and relieve nasal and sinus congestion[5]. - Chlorpheniramine, a first-generation antihistamine that blocks histamine H1 receptors to reduce allergy symptoms such as sneezing, runny nose, and watery eyes[3]. - Atropine, an antimuscarinic agent that competitively inhibits muscarinic acetylcholine receptors in smooth muscle, exocrine glands, cardiac tissue, and the central nervous system. It reduces secretions and can help alleviate symptoms like rhinorrhea (runny nose)[8]. The combination is used primarily for the temporary relief of symptoms associated with the common cold, allergies (such as allergic rhinitis), or other upper respiratory tract illnesses including sinusitis. Each component targets different aspects of these conditions—pseudoephedrine for decongestion; chlorpheniramine for antihistaminic effects; atropine for anticholinergic drying effects.
