Drug intelligence / Profile preview
psilocybin + D-serine is a combination drug product being developed by the Hadassah Medical Organization for the treatment of psychiatric conditions, including depression and anxiety. The formulation combines psilocybin, a naturally occurring psychedelic prodrug that is converted into psilocin, a potent agonist of the 5-HT2A serotonin receptor, with D-serine, an endogenous amino acid that serves as a mandatory co-agonist at the glycine binding site of the N-methyl-D-aspartate (NMDA) receptor. This combination aims to leverage the rapid-acting antidepressant effects of psilocybin while utilizing D-serine to potentially modulate the psychedelic experience and enhance neuroplasticity through glutamatergic pathways. It is currently being evaluated in Phase 1 clinical trials to assess safety, tolerability, and psychological effects in healthy volunteers as a precursor to studies in patient populations.
