PTA + MSC_Apceth is a combination therapy investigated for the treatment of peripheral arterial occlusive disease (PAOD), particularly in patients with critical limb ischemia. The regimen combines percutaneous transluminal angioplasty (PTA), a minimally invasive endovascular procedure to open narrowed or blocked blood vessels, with intravenous infusion of allogeneic mesenchymal stromal cells (MSCs) manufactured by Apceth. The rationale is that while PTA restores blood flow mechanically, the addition of MSCs may enhance tissue repair and revascularization through their immunomodulatory and pro-angiogenic properties. These cells secrete anti-inflammatory cytokines such as IL-10 and TGF-beta and growth factors like VEGF and HGF, which can promote angiogenesis and modulate immune responses in ischemic tissues[4]. Clinical trials have evaluated this combination for safety and efficacy in adult patients with advanced PAOD[2][4].
