Overview

PtCl(phpy)(PTA) is a cyclometallated platinum(II) complex featuring a 2-phenylpyridine (phpy) ligand and a 1,3,5-triaza-7-phosphaadamantane (PTA) phosphine ligand. This organometallic compound is part of a series of complexes designed to modulate biological activity through phosphine ligand substitution. Preclinical studies indicate that the PTA derivative possesses selective antileishmanial activity, significantly reducing infectivity in parasitic models, and selective antitumor activity against ovarian cancer cell lines. Its mechanism of action involves ligand exchange with sulfur- and nitrogen-containing biomolecules, as well as direct interaction with DNA and serum proteins like bovine serum albumin (BSA).
