Overview

**PTH(1-31)** is a recombinant analog of the first 31 amino acids of human parathyroid hormone (PTH), designed as an oral tablet formulation for potential use in osteoporosis treatment. It acts as an intermittent PTH receptor agonist, preferentially stimulating osteoblast activity to promote bone formation over resorption, mimicking the anabolic effects of teriparatide (PTH 1-34). Developed as an oral alternative to subcutaneous PTH analogs, it was investigated in phase 1/2 clinical trials for postmenopausal osteoporosis, showing systemic absorption and increases in bone formation markers like P1NP comparable to Forsteo (teriparatide).[2]
