Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Pu Yang Wan Wu Tang + pentoxifylline is a combination of a traditional Chinese herbal formula (Pu Yang Wan Wu Tang) and the pharmaceutical drug pentoxifylline. Pentoxifylline is a methylxanthine derivative and hemorheological agent that improves blood flow by decreasing blood viscosity, increasing erythrocyte flexibility, reducing plasma fibrinogen, inhibiting neutrophil activation, and suppressing platelet aggregation. It acts primarily as a non-specific phosphodiesterase inhibitor (mainly PDE III/IV), leading to increased intracellular cAMP levels and has additional anti-inflammatory effects. Pentoxifylline is approved for the treatment of intermittent claudication due to chronic occlusive arterial disease of the limbs[1][2][5]. Pu Yang Wan Wu Tang is presumed to be an herbal formulation used in traditional Chinese medicine; its specific composition and mechanism are not well-documented in Western medical literature.
