Overview

Purified donor CD34+ cells + T cells transfusion is an experimental allogeneic cell therapy developed by Dr. Everett Meyer and colleagues at Stanford University. It is designed for patients with end-stage renal disease who are receiving a kidney transplant from a living donor. The therapy consists of a combination of purified donor-derived CD34+ hematopoietic stem/progenitor cells and CD3+ T cells, administered intravenously following a conditioning regimen of total lymphoid irradiation (TLI) and anti-thymocyte globulin (ATG). The primary mechanism of action is the induction of mixed chimerism, where the donor's and recipient's immune systems coexist, thereby promoting long-term immune tolerance to the transplanted kidney and potentially allowing for the complete withdrawal of immunosuppressive medications.
