Purified Vero Cell Rabies Vaccine (Crucell)

Purified Vero Cell Rabies Vaccine (PVRV) is an inactivated biologic vaccine developed by Crucell Holland BV (a subsidiary of Janssen/Johnson & Johnson) for rabies prevention and post-exposure prophylaxis. The vaccine is produced by growing the Wistar strain of the rabies virus in Vero cell cultures, followed by inactivation with β-propiolactone and subsequent purification. It is designed to induce the production of rabies virus neutralizing antibodies (RVNA) to provide active immunity against infection. In clinical development, this specific PVRV formulation has been evaluated in Phase II trials (such as NCT01228383) both as a standalone vaccine and in combination with monoclonal antibody cocktails like CL184 to simulate post-exposure prophylaxis regimens.
