Drug intelligence / Profile preview
A synthetic peptide-based vaccine candidate developed by the Malaria Vaccine and Drug Development Center (MVDC) for the prevention of Plasmodium vivax malaria. The vaccine consists of synthetic long peptides (LSPs) derived from the N-terminal, central repeat (R), and C-terminal regions of the P. vivax circumsporozoite protein (PvCSP). It is formulated with the Montanide ISA 51 adjuvant, a water-in-oil emulsion designed to enhance the immune response. The vaccine targets the pre-erythrocytic stage of the malaria parasite's life cycle by inducing antibodies that recognize and neutralize sporozoites, thereby preventing liver infection. It has been evaluated in Phase 1 and Phase 2 clinical trials in both malaria-naive and semi-immune populations to assess safety, immunogenicity, and protective efficacy.
