Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Banlice Mousse is an over-the-counter topical insecticide used for the treatment of head lice (pediculosis capitis). It is a combination product containing pyrethrins, a natural insecticide derived from chrysanthemum flowers, and piperonyl butoxide, a synergist that inhibits the detoxification enzymes of the lice, thereby enhancing the efficacy of the pyrethrins. The product is formulated as a pressurized aerosol mousse, which is applied to dry hair to kill both live lice and their eggs (nits) by targeting the insect's nervous system. It is a market-leading treatment in Australia and has been used as a clinical comparator in trials for newer pediculicides.
