Overview

Pyridoxal 5'-phosphate (PLP) is the active metabolite of Vitamin B6 and is being investigated by Colorado State University as a potential ATP receptor antagonist. Specifically, research focuses on its ability to act as a P2Y2 receptor antagonist to study the role of ATP in vasodilation during exercise and hypoxia. In a mechanistic clinical trial (NCT03738943), PLP is administered via infusion to healthy young adults to evaluate its effectiveness in blocking ATP-mediated blood flow increases, which may help explain reduced vascular function in aging populations.
