The combination acts synergistically to hydrate mucosal tissues: pyroglutamic acid enhances water retention and moisture, while sodium hyaluronate provides lubricating, moisturizing, and protective effects. This synergy allows for less frequent application compared to formulations containing only one of the two components. The formulation typically contains 0.05–2% pyroglutamic acid and 0.05–1% sodium hyaluronate by weight, and is applied topically. The mechanism of action primarily relies on their hydrating and moisture-retaining properties in mucosal surfaces[1].
