Overview

Qingchang suppository (also known as Qing-Chang-Shuan or QCS) is a Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) preparation developed by Longhua Hospital affiliated to Shanghai University of Traditional Chinese Medicine. It is specifically formulated for the treatment of mild to moderate active ulcerative proctitis, particularly for patients presenting with the 'damp-heat syndrome of the large intestine' according to TCM diagnostics. The formulation is a multi-herbal combination typically containing *Indigo naturalis* (Qingdai), *Radix Sanguisorbae* (Diyu), *Coptis chinensis* (Huanglian), *Phellodendron amurense* (Huangbai), and *Galla Chinensis* (Wubeizi). Its therapeutic effects are attributed to its anti-inflammatory and mucosal healing properties, which involve the inhibition of pro-inflammatory cytokines such as TNF-alpha, IL-1beta, and IL-6, as well as the modulation of the intestinal immune response and gut microbiota.
