QL0911 is a recombinant human thrombopoietin (TPO)-mimetic peptide-Fc fusion protein developed by Qilu Pharmaceutical as a biosimilar to romiplostim (Nplate). It acts as an agonist of the thrombopoietin receptor (TPO-R), also known as MPL, which is expressed on the surface of megakaryocytes and their precursors. By binding to and activating this receptor, QL0911 stimulates the Janus kinase/signal transducer and activator of transcription (JAK/STAT) signaling pathway, leading to increased proliferation and differentiation of megakaryocytes and a subsequent rise in platelet production. The drug is primarily being developed for the treatment of chronic primary immune thrombocytopenia (ITP) and chemotherapy-induced thrombocytopenia (CIT). It is administered via subcutaneous injection and has been evaluated in Phase 2/3 clinical trials to assess its efficacy and safety compared to placebo in cancer patients experiencing treatment-induced thrombocytopenia.
