This is a quadrivalent recombinant vaccine designed to protect against human papillomavirus (HPV) types 6, 11, 16, and 18. Developed by the Chengdu Institute of Biological Products (a subsidiary of China National Biotec Group / Sinopharm), the vaccine utilizes the *Hansenula polymorpha* (Pichia angusta) yeast expression system to produce virus-like particles (VLPs) of the L1 capsid protein. This methylotrophic yeast system is chosen for its high-yield production capabilities and ability to perform complex post-translational modifications. The vaccine is intended for the prevention of cervical cancer, vulvar and vaginal cancers, and genital warts caused by the targeted HPV types in both females and males. It is currently in late-stage clinical development in China, following successful safety and immunogenicity studies in various age groups.
