Overview

Quetiapine + sodium valproate is a **combination of two pharmaceutical drugs** commonly used in psychiatry. **Quetiapine** is an atypical antipsychotic primarily indicated for schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, and as adjunct therapy in major depressive disorder[2][6]. **Sodium valproate** (valproic acid) is a mood stabilizer, anticonvulsant, and is indicated for epilepsy, bipolar disorder (manic and mixed episodes), and migraine prophylaxis. **This combination is used as adjunctive therapy, mostly in the management of acute mania or mixed episodes in bipolar I disorder and has been trialed in Alzheimer's disease for behavioral symptoms**[1][7]. *Quetiapine* acts mainly through antagonism of dopamine D2 and serotonin 5-HT2A receptors, while *sodium valproate* increases GABA levels and modulates neuronal excitability. **There is evidence that the combination is effective for psychiatric symptoms but may result in additive side effects such as CNS depression (drowsiness, confusion, dizziness)**[3][5][7].
