Overview

This is a combination of three agents: - **Quetiapine** is an atypical antipsychotic used primarily for the treatment of schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, and as adjunct therapy in major depressive disorder. It acts mainly by antagonizing dopamine D2 and serotonin 5-HT2A receptors, modulating neurotransmitter activity in the brain. - **Vitamin D** (commonly cholecalciferol) is a fat-soluble vitamin important for calcium homeostasis and bone health. It also has roles in immune modulation and may influence metabolic pathways. - **Vitamin E** (tocopherol) is a lipid-soluble antioxidant that protects cell membranes from oxidative damage. The rationale for combining these agents stems from research suggesting that vitamins D and E may mitigate some adverse effects associated with atypical antipsychotics like quetiapine—particularly metabolic side effects such as hyperglycemia or tardive dyskinesia. Vitamin D appears to counteract quetiapine-induced insulin resistance by preventing downregulation of PI3K signaling, while vitamin E’s antioxidant properties may help reduce oxidative stress-related side effects[2][3][5][6][7].
