Overview
Quinapril + alpha-lipoic acid is a combination of an angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitor, quinapril, and the antioxidant nutraceutical, alpha-lipoic acid. Quinapril is used to treat hypertension and heart failure by inhibiting the conversion of angiotensin I to angiotensin II, leading to vasodilation and reduced blood pressure[2][4][5]. Alpha-lipoic acid acts as an antioxidant involved in carbohydrate metabolism and energy production[1][8]. In clinical studies involving diabetic patients with hypertension, this combination has been shown to reduce proteinuria and improve endothelial function more than quinapril alone; however, it does not further lower blood pressure compared to monotherapy. The combination may help attenuate vascular complications in patients with diabetes and hypertension[3].
