5RA-5RCT is a specific 10-day sequential therapy regimen investigated by Buddhist Tzu Chi General Hospital for the eradication of Helicobacter pylori infection. The regimen is divided into two 5-day phases: the first phase consists of rabeprazole (20 mg b.i.d.) and amoxicillin (1000 mg b.i.d.), and the second phase consists of rabeprazole (20 mg b.i.d.), clarithromycin (500 mg b.i.d.), and tetracycline (1000 mg b.i.d.). Rabeprazole is a proton pump inhibitor that reduces gastric acid secretion, thereby increasing the stability and efficacy of the antibiotics. Amoxicillin, clarithromycin, and tetracycline are antibiotics that target the bacterial cell wall and protein synthesis machinery to eliminate the H. pylori infection. This sequential approach aims to improve eradication rates compared to standard triple therapy, particularly in regions with high antibiotic resistance.
