rabeprazole + dabigatran

This is a combination of two pharmaceutical agents, rabeprazole and dabigatran. Rabeprazole is a proton pump inhibitor (PPI) that suppresses gastric acid secretion by irreversibly inhibiting the gastric H+/K+-ATPase enzyme in parietal cells, thereby reducing stomach acidity[3]. It is primarily used for gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), peptic ulcer disease, and other acid-related disorders. Dabigatran is an oral direct thrombin inhibitor anticoagulant used to reduce the risk of stroke and systemic embolism in patients with non-valvular atrial fibrillation and for treatment or prevention of venous thromboembolism[4][5]. The combination may be prescribed to mitigate gastrointestinal side effects associated with dabigatran therapy, as its prodrug form contains tartaric acid which can cause GI symptoms; PPIs like rabeprazole are sometimes co-administered to prevent these symptoms[1]. Co-administration may slightly decrease dabigatran bioavailability but generally remains within therapeutic range[1][5].
