Rabeprazole + pantoprazole is a combination of two proton pump inhibitors (PPIs), each used individually to reduce gastric acid secretion in the treatment of conditions such as gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) and peptic ulcer disease. Both drugs are substituted benzimidazole derivatives that act by irreversibly inhibiting the hydrogen-potassium adenosine triphosphatase (H+/K+ ATPase) enzyme system—commonly known as the gastric proton pump—on the secretory surface of parietal cells in the stomach. This inhibition blocks the final step in gastric acid production, leading to increased intragastric pH and reduced acidity[4][5][6]. Rabeprazole and pantoprazole differ slightly in their pharmacokinetics but share a similar mechanism of action. They are both approved for use as monotherapies; however, there is no established clinical rationale or approval for their combined use together.
