Rabies immune globulin (human) is a sterile solution of immunoglobulins derived from the plasma of human donors hyperimmunized with rabies vaccine. It is used for passive, transient post-exposure prophylaxis of rabies infection in individuals exposed to the virus, providing immediate antibodies until the patient’s own immune system can respond to active vaccination. The drug acts by neutralizing the rabies virus at the site of exposure and in circulation, thereby preventing viral entry into nerve tissue and subsequent progression to clinical disease. It does not replace vaccination but is administered concurrently with a full course of rabies vaccine for optimal protection[1][2][3][4][5][6].
