Overview

The rabies vaccine (2BS cell) is a freeze-dried, inactivated vaccine developed by the Chengdu Institute of Biological Products for the prevention of rabies in humans. It is produced by cultivating the rabies virus in the 2BS human diploid cell line, a well-characterized human embryonic lung fibroblast line. Following cultivation, the virus is inactivated and purified to create a stable, freeze-dried formulation. This vaccine is designed to elicit a protective immune response, specifically the production of rabies virus-neutralizing antibodies (RVNA), for both pre-exposure and post-exposure prophylaxis. The use of human diploid cells is considered a high standard for rabies vaccine production due to its excellent safety profile and low incidence of adverse reactions compared to older nerve tissue-derived or primary cell-derived vaccines. It is currently undergoing Phase 3 clinical evaluation in China to assess its immunogenicity and safety across a broad age range.
