Drug intelligence / Profile preview
The BCHT rabies vaccine is a freeze-dried, inactivated vaccine produced by Changchun BCHT Biotechnology Co., Ltd. It is prepared by cultivating the Pitman-Moore (PM) fixed rabies virus strain in Vero cells, followed by harvest, concentration, purification, and inactivation with beta-propiolactone. The vaccine is indicated for both pre-exposure and post-exposure prophylaxis against rabies in humans. Upon administration, it stimulates the host's immune system to produce virus-neutralizing antibodies (VNAs) that specifically target the rabies virus glycoprotein (G protein), thereby preventing the virus from entering the central nervous system. The freeze-dried formulation provides enhanced stability and a longer shelf life compared to liquid formulations, making it suitable for use in various clinical settings.
