The lyophilized human rabies vaccine (serum-free Vero cells) is an inactivated viral vaccine developed by Chengdu Bioteque for the prevention of rabies. It is produced using a serum-free Vero cell culture process, which aims to improve safety by eliminating bovine-derived components and reducing the risk of allergic reactions or contamination. The vaccine is typically administered via the Essen 5-dose regimen (days 0, 3, 7, 14, and 28) or the Zagreb 4-dose regimen. It works by stimulating the production of neutralizing antibodies against the rabies virus, providing active immunity. As of 2024, it is in Phase III clinical development in China to evaluate batch consistency and safety.
