Overview

The rabies vaccine (hamster kidney cell) is an inactivated viral vaccine developed by Henan Grand Biopharma, specifically through its subsidiary Henan Grand Biowin Pharmaceutical, for the prevention of rabies in humans. The vaccine is produced by cultivating a fixed strain of the rabies virus (such as the CTN-1 strain) in primary hamster kidney cells. Following cultivation, the virus is harvested, concentrated, purified, and inactivated using beta-propiolactone. It is indicated for both pre-exposure prophylaxis in high-risk individuals and post-exposure prophylaxis following potential rabies virus exposure. The vaccine works by inducing the host's immune system to produce specific neutralizing antibodies that target the rabies virus glycoprotein, effectively preventing the virus from entering the central nervous system and causing fatal encephalomyelitis.
