Overview
rabies vaccine + japanese encephalitis vaccine refers to a combination immunization regimen consisting of the Purified Chick Embryo Cell Vaccine (PCECV), commercially known as Rabipur, and an inactivated Japanese Encephalitis (JE) vaccine. Developed by Novartis Vaccines & Diagnostics, this co-administration strategy was evaluated as a pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) regimen for toddlers aged 12 to 18 months in regions where both diseases are endemic, such as Thailand. The rabies component is an inactivated virus produced in purified chick embryo cells, while the JE component is an inactivated viral vaccine. The regimen is designed to simplify pediatric vaccination schedules by providing simultaneous protection against both pathogens. Clinical data from Phase II trials (NCT00694460) indicate that the vaccines are safe and immunogenic when administered together, with no evidence of immunological interference between the components.
