Overview

Rabies virus inactivated antigen, A is an inactivated viral vaccine used for active immunization against rabies. It is indicated for both pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) in individuals at high risk of exposure and post-exposure prophylaxis (PEP) following a potential rabies exposure. The vaccine works by stimulating the immune system to produce rabies virus-neutralizing antibodies (RVNA), which target the viral glycoprotein (G protein) to prevent the virus from infecting the central nervous system. Common formulations include the Human Diploid Cell Vaccine (HDCV) and the Purified Chick Embryo Cell Vaccine (PCECV). It is typically administered via intramuscular injection.
