rAd-p53 + transcatheter arterial chemoembolization (TACE) is a combination therapy for advanced hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). TACE is a locoregional treatment that delivers chemotherapy directly to the liver tumor via the hepatic artery, followed by embolization to block blood flow and enhance drug retention. Recombinant adenovirus p53 (rAd-p53) is a gene therapy that introduces wild-type TP53 tumor suppressor gene into cancer cells using an engineered adenoviral vector. The combination aims to restore normal p53 function in tumor cells, promoting apoptosis and inhibiting proliferation, while TACE provides direct cytotoxic effects and ischemia. Clinical studies have shown this combination improves objective response rates, survival outcomes, quality of life, and immune function compared to TACE alone in patients with advanced HCC[1][2][6]. Gendicine is the commercial name for rAd-p53.
